EVEN PROPHET MUHAMMAD ﷺ GRIEVED THE LOSS OF A LOVED ONE

(A story of love, loss, and the dignity of allowing yourself to feel)

Heartbreak, Tears, and the Pain of Separation

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ knew grief intimately.
He lost his father before he was born, his mother as a child, his grandfather soon after, and later the love of his life, Khadījah (رضي الله عنها).
He buried his daughters with his own hands.
He wept for his son Ibrahim as he held him during his final breath.

He walked through some of life’s deepest emotional wounds, not with coldness, but with a heart that felt pain, love, and compassion.
His tears were not weakness — they were proof of his humanity, mercy, and tenderness.

His story teaches that grieving is not a lack of faith — it is part of being human.

Key lesson: You can love deeply, lose deeply, and still remain close to Allah.
Grief is not a sign that you’re far from Him; it’s a sign that your heart is alive.

His Duʿā — The Prayer of Regret and Hope

One of the most comforting ayahs tied to his grief is when Allah reassured him during emotional pain:

وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَ‌بُّكَ فَتَرْ‌ضَىٰ

“And your Lord will surely give you until you are pleased.”

— (Surah Ad-Duha, 93:5)

This was Allah’s promise to a grieving heart, that what lies ahead will be better than what was lost.

Mental health reflection:

Grief can feel overwhelming:
• a tight chest
• loss of energy
• waves of sadness
• longing that never fully goes away

The Prophet ﷺ experienced all of this and more.
He cried, he remembered, he felt sadness for years — and yet he was the strongest of creation.

His life shows that grief is not something to “get over.”
It is something you walk through with patience, remembrance, and gentleness toward yourself.

You can cry and still be strong.
You can miss someone and still move forward.
You can grieve and still be beloved to Allah.

What to Learn Today

  • Feeling pain after loss is natural and allowed, even the Prophet ﷺ felt it.
